Vintage 2024
Text Dominik Weigand*
‘2024 was a very challenging year. Unfortunately, the Barbera and Riesling vineyards suffered serious frost damage in the spring, with a loss of around 50% in each case.
In addition, due to heavy rainfall, we also had very high fungal pressure and were always very challenged in plant protection. With a total precipitation of 1,000 mm, growth was very strong and we had our hands full keeping the vineyards in good shape.
But the huge effort was worth it! Thanks to the right timing, we were able to harvest very good quality grapes despite the adverse conditions in the fall.
In the cantina, on the other hand, everything went smoothly and all the wines fermented very quickly. Generally speaking, it was a vintage that produced lighter and less structured wines.
Nevertheless, we produced a very good Pinot Nero & Riesling. The differences depending on the location and variety are enormous this year and you can also see very clearly who has put in a lot of effort.
Once again this year, association members helped us with the harvest, the team was very international, guests from Sweden, Finland and Austria were joining us in the vineyard.
Chris Morgan from ‘Branding with Love’ in Bern will be responsible for designing the labels for this vintage.

Dominik studied viticulture, oenology and wine management at the BOKU in Vienna. After various internships in Munich, Burgenland and New Zealand, he settled down in the Langhe. He came to the Langhe at the age of 19 after his apprenticeship as a carpenter, when he helped Mauro Veglio with the grape harvest. He was immediately captivated by the Italian lifestyle, the work in the vineyards and the helpfulness of the ‘Langaroli’, and it wasn’t long before his decision was made. He wanted to be a winemaker. Dominik has been employed by Mauro Veglio since 2016, he produces a Barolo with his own Azienda Agricola in addition to the Serafina wines.
