Alexander von Bronewski. Dogliani Castello 2017

In Lindau, on the Lake of Constance, Alexander von Bronewski operates a small leather factory, producing bags and various accessories of the finest quality.

“It’s really nice to work with one of the oldest materials in mankind’s history,” says Alex. “I like the characteristics of good quality leather and its diversified uses. Creating pieces to be valued because of their design, quality and craftmanship, and become personal favorites for a long time, possibly even handed down a generation. The freedom to take a short break on a beautiful sunny day or to decide to work on a small piece until late in the night.”

He works exclusively with his hands.

At the moment, “handmade” is trendy and the term is somewhat overused. It’s even used for work done with machines. But the key features of good leather work, such as stitching or corners, are only really good when finished by hand.

When it is truly handmade, the craftsman properly considers which material to use when finishing a piece, what is necessary and what isn’t. Alexander could work anywhere with just a few tools and materials, even without electricity.

Timeless, functional and esthetically pleasing, this is what the unschooled newcomer to leather attaches value to. During his stay as Artist in Residence in Dogliani Castello, he made beautiful keyrings, pesonalized one-offs for our houses.
