The small stone buildings found in the vineyards of the Langhe hills are called Ciabot. This was where the winemakers stored their tools. And behind these cool walls they took their daily naps to escape the hot, midday sun. It goes without saying that the building was always in the nicest part of the vineyard. What a shame that so many of these buildings had to give way to modern technology. Today the vineyard work is carried out by machines and the days of daily nodding off behind the cool walls of a Ciabot are long gone. Just about everywhere, but certainly not where we are.
We left the Ciabot building just as we bought it from a nice elderly gentleman from Roddino. There’s a very small bedroom. We only added a large eat-in kitchen. The location is fantastic as ever. The village of Roddino is an easy 5 minute walk and yet our Ciabot is the perfect hideaway for nature lovers who don’t want to be disturbed. There‘s just enough room for two people who like each other a lot. Or only for you – for a short break in the land of the great wines.
