Florian ‘doc’ Kaps* What is SUPERSENSE?
Literally no day goes by without at least once, shaking our head and amazed or just confused and curious asking ourselves, ‘ why are we here and what are we actually doing here?’
With great pleasure we usually answer with bitter honesty, that we unfortunately – or actually more like, ‘thankfully’ – do not know it ourselves yet! Even though we have been doing our “mischief” in these magical halls of the Dogenhof in Vienna for more than 5 years now enjoyably experimenting with stimulation of all our senses.
Even as a small child, this absolutely crazy Venetian palace, which was built in the heart of Vienna at the end of the 19th century, cast a spell over me, and when as an adult, I was allowed to sign the lease with trembling hands, after more than 10 years of struggle, I only knew one thing: This magical place is filled and animated only and exclusively with everything that makes our heart beat faster.
In the following weeks a wild mixture of cafe – workshop – studio – stage – office and shop and actually 13 other things emerged. A world that is constantly changing and that each individual visitor or partner takes a new impression and gets a new aspect.
The most beautiful moments happen when the paths, worlds and visions of numerous crazy people cross at this place and positive energy sprays like a magic candle on the Christmas tree. When friendships seem to feel in milliseconds, as familiar as if they had originated in the sandpit and people appear out of nowhere and whirl everything up with a laugh! You want to tackle 234 things, immediately, now and forever.
This is how it happened last year with our new friends, the wonderful “Gang” from the Langhe, who not only won our hearts but also gave us one of the most beautiful palace evenings we have had so far. With a lot of people that we saw for the very first time and with whom immediately we were friends; with the incredible wineproducers Gianfranco Alessandria and Mauro Veglio, Ulla Schneeweis and Fabian Wittmann, the winelabel designers, Anja Kaufmann and of course Yvonne who pulls everything into her magical spell with her energy.
It was exactly on this evening that, exhausted from many hours on a huge parmesan loaf, I suddenly knew exactly what my dream and my vision for SUPERSENSE was!! A place where exactly such evenings can happen time and time again without the need for lengthy planning; without having to understand why ?? Where you can simply enjoy with an open heart and shining eyes, unconditionally happy and just human!
There is nothing more powerful in the world than a vision that becomes reality!

Florian is called “doc” and is somehow notorious for specializing in impossible projects. Perhaps because, as one such project, he saved and restarted the last Polaroid film factory in 2008 and since then has been unable to resist rethinking, dusting off and celebrating, endangered analog technologies in his analog cabinet of curiosities called SUPERSENSE. Building new awareness and markets around the world, connecting with other crazy visionaries to do things that big companies can’t even imagine.
