Restaurant tip for Piedmont:

Osteria dei Binelli – Piedmontese cuisine in a traditional locanda.

Tables with white, wooden chairs whose legs are sometimes not quite straight, and food where you can tell the ingredients haven’t made a trip around the world. What is it that makes Piedmont so irresistible? Why do the flavours in a down-to-earth “locanda” remain so vivid in our memories? To find answers, we set out on a quest to the Osteria dei Binelli near Dogliani in the province of Cuneo.

Hazelnut orchards, vines and meadows surround the Osteria dei Binelli in the Piedmont hills. On days with a clear view, the snow-covered peaks of the Cottian Alps stand out in the distance and make you catch your breath with their beauty. If the weather isn’t as clear, well then you concentrate on eating. A large part of this is served with such a wonderful, local environmental balance that we city dwellers become envious; we don’t often have the fortune of our ingredients coming from regional producers.

Hazelnut plantations, wine and rural cuisine

While the rust-red painted building of the Osteria dei Binelli is flanked by bright yellow dandelions in spring, in autumn everything revolves around the harvest of the famous “Tonda Gentile delle Langhe”. This is the Piedmontese hazelnut that is particularly popular with confectioners, and from which the delicious “torrone” is made. But on this occasion we were here for dinner, because the inn, which is also popular with locals and families, is known for its good cuisine.
